Talented rugby players at The Stourport High School and VIth Form College will be turning out in a new strip when matches resume for the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) squad.

The kit has been sponsored to the tune of £500 by Tettenhall Building Company, run by Mark Thomas whose son Fin, a year 13 student, is a squad member.

Ryan Watkins, DiSE manager from Worcester Warriors, said: “We’re over the moon with Mark’s generosity. The lads look very smart and we hope we can now arrange fixtures for them to play in the new year.”

The arrival of the kit came just ahead of the government finally allowing the heavily contact game to resume at community level with adaptations, including no scrums or mauls, to ensure it is Covid-secure.

School principal Jon Sheers added: “The sponsorship is an extremely generous gesture and is greatly appreciated by all the players, coaching staff and the wider school community.”

The DiSE programme is run in partnership between the VIth Form and Worcester Warriors, enabling talented players to develop their game at the same time as completing academic studies.
