Healthy Eating Week

It has been a busy but very enjoyable week in food this week with the British Nutrition Foundation Healthy Eating week. Healthy Eating Week is an annual event which focuses on healthy eating and getting active.

This year there is a focus on 5 key themes, to support the overall aim of finding your healthier you!

  1. Know the facts
  2. Make a healthier choice
  3. Plan for success
  4. Be the chef
  5. Keep moving

As a school we have support this nationwide campaign by running school wide ACTU sessions looking at Know the facts and making a healthier choice. Year 7, 8, 9 & 12 have participated in Healthy cooking day challenges, really focusing on encouraging those small swaps that can make a big difference to overall health and wellbeing. The PE department have also supported the initiative by focusing on the keep moving element during lessons this week.

We also wanted to encourage some healthy competition so decided to run the SHS bake off for Year 7, 8 and 9 after school on Tuesday and Wednesday. These sessions were about encouraging students to cook and enjoy cooking and we have certainly done that. There have been some fantastic decorative Swiss rolls and we have seen star bakers throughout the year groups. I have to say I have been really impressed with student’s keenness and determination to have a go. We have really had a fantastic fun filled week and are rounding off the week with a staff bake off on the Friday.
