*Family Forum

Thank you for your interest in our SHS Family Forum.

At SHS, families' views and opinions are valued and should be included and taken into account when making decisions that affect their family and school. Being part of the Family Forum gives you an opportunity to have a say in improving how their school delivers education, shapes its policies and communicates its priorities for supporting children and families with their learning.

Our Family Forum is placed to motivate and support families to get involved in their child’s learning; contribute to school life through volunteering their time, skills and knowledge as well as helping the school to share information, advice and support for children and families.

The Family Forum is vital to the success of the school. Our Forum members have an important role to fulfil that directly affects the education and wellbeing of children and improves standards throughout school.

The role of the Forums are to:

  1. Consider and increase family and community engagement within the School
  2. Contribute to school improvement
  3. Provide advice to school leaders

What are you NOT responsible for?

  • Representing individual families' views or issues to the Headteacher
  • Handling family complaints
  • Discussing individual children or school staff at the meetings

All meetings are welcoming to all families. The Family Forum should be mindful of representing general family views and promoting family involvement as well as supporting the school to improve. Every effort will be made to host meetings to maximise attendance. An agenda will be sent out a week beforehand, seeking a commitment from everyone present to stay on topic and avoid anecdotal stories that may not be factual. Ensuring that those in attendance do not use meetings to voice personal agendas or grievances or do so on behalf of other families. Minutes will be agreed and distributed promptly and shared to the whole SHS Family here.
